Coaching for College Students

Dear Students:

Congratulations! You’ve taken a wonderful first step on the path to higher education by both applying and gaining admission to college.

The next step on your educational journey is to succeed in college and to graduate – hopefully within 4-6 years. Yet, the graduation rate, according to U.S. Department of Education data, for full-time, first-time students entering a 4-year college and graduating within 6 years is only 59%. As stark as this statistic may seem, there is no need to panic or worry. You can be successful in college. We are here to help.

Here’s how:

We provide coaching and counseling services for students during the summer before their 1st year of college, as well as coaching support throughout the all-important first year of school and during the sophomore, junior, and senior years of college. Again, our goal is to help you to be successful in college and to graduate … on time.

What we do:

  1. Pre-college coaching on strategies, processes, and academic tools to help you succeed inside and outside the classroom. Why pre-college coaching? College is on a totally different level from high school. There is more work. The expectations from teachers, or in this case, professors are higher. And the task of balancing academics, extracurriculars, and your social life is amplified. And even if you graduated from your public or private high school with stellar grades and ranked at the top of your class, you’ll find that college, irrespective of the type of college, is structurally different from high school and therefore presents new learning challenges.
  2. Weekly 30 minute to one-hour academic and college life coaching sessions during the semester (approximately 16 weeks). Herein is where we have a coaching session with you each week to offer guidance and support on your path through college. During the weekly calls (or video conferences), we 1) review and track your academic progress, 2) strategize with you on how to earn higher grades on quizzes, tests, and papers, and 3) coach you on ways to stay ahead of upcoming events, be-it academic assignments, athletic commitments, or social obligations.
  3. Phone and e-mail on-call availability for time-sensitive academic, social, and cross-cultural coaching needs. We are available to you on an on-call basis in order to help you avoid pitfalls or road blocks in college, as well as to encourage you to take or maintain control of your college experience.

What are the benefits:

  • You have a proactive way of protecting your investment – often a $200,000 to $280,000 four-year college education financial investment – by optimizing your college experience
  • You will have an objective, non-judgmental resource to assist you with navigating the college environment and the rigor of college coursework
  • You will benefit from the insight and experience of Stan Lemons, a graduate of Amherst College and UCLA and an experienced education counselor
